Local Legends meets with 50-year-old Talaandig soil painter Waway Saway to learn more about his art and the lives of the people from his tribe. He talks about the tribe’s main source of income and why the Talaandigs are more known for visual arts. Waway also shows the various colors of soil and the process of turning them into useful painting materials. He then shifts to the effects of climate change on the Talaandigs’ agricultural production. Lastly, Waway says he takes pride in his art pieces, and stresses the importance of appreciating the essence of nature and soil not only through painting, but also by planting trees and nurturing the forests.
